The shelves are (almost) done!

So my brother decided to come over tonight and help out with the shelves...I didn't know if he would or not because he'd been grumbling about it all weekend, but I'm very glad he did!!!

When I drew the holes for the middle bar, somehow they managed to un-straighten themselves from when I checked them with the level...hmmm, funny how that happens! So there's still a bit more work to do, but seeing it close to being finished is a great motivator! The plan is to finish painting this wall tomorrow night and hopefully fill the holes on Tuesday. Then the books can go up and the room can be finished before my dad (again, hopefully) comes up next weekend!!! Now if that's not a motivator, I don't know what is!

Productive Weekend

I haven't been able to sew much lately, but I have gotten quite a few other things done. I decided yesterday that it was time to tackle my front bedroom, which has basically been a catch-all for the last 18 months. I purged a lot of stuff, organized a lot of stuff, and got to the point where I couldn't do too much more. So then, I decided it was time to put some shelves up, which I'd been wanting to do for quite a while. But I started thinking-I still need to paint the walls! I hate boring white walls. So I went out to Home Depot last night, figured out what I needed for the shelving units, and picked up some test samples for the walls. I decided on "Tropical Lagoon," a beautiful blue green color. I've got two coats on two of the walls; I can't go any further until I get rid of some more boxes, which I can't do until the shelves are put up! The goal is to get the shelves put up tonight and then unpack the two boxes. It will probably make for a long night, but it will be SO worth it when it's done! As soon as this is finished, my "hobby room" as I decided to call it will be completely ready!

I also picked up some clothes out at Goodwill that I intend to use for my 9 month old niece, Savannah. I purchased a green denim jumper, a western style coral eyelet shirt, a green tee with green and brown butterflies, a brown corduroy skirt, and a polyester robin's egg blue bed sheet. I can't wait to see what possibilities will come of these clothes! Oh...I also purchased a sweater for me :-) Stay tuned for pictures of those projects!!

"Tropical Lagoon"
This is the closest to the actual color that I could come up with!

This is the shelf wall...still drying so it looks darker than it is!

First (completed) solo project!

I got my first project done today! It's not even close to professionally made and I made some errors, but it's mine! Such a wonderful feeling. I made a snuggie (yes, that kind of snuggie!) It would have been much easier to just purchase one, but this one is tailored to my preferences so I'm already head over heels in love with it :-) I finished at school before our basketball game tonight and all of my students were quite jealous of the adorable fabric. I know it's not a huge accomplishment in the grand scheme of things, but I'm hoping that it's the beginning of a long and enjoyable relationship with sewing. I've already got 6 or 7 patterns in my stash that I intend to start working on and this seemed like the easiest one to start. Plus, with sub-zero wind chill for the next few days it will come in handy!

I think the next adventure for me is either a scrub top for my brother's fiance' or a purse for me. I'm very seriously tempted to tackle the purse first. My seams need a lot of work and I think a purse is a much better way to work on it than a top for my future sister-in-law. I'm hoping to cut the pattern tomorrow and finish it by this weekend. It will definitely come in handy for state band auditions this weekend. And if it's a success, that will be a good reason to stop by the fabric store in Salina!

Here is a picture of the snuggie:
